The Circassian World website was created on the 21st February 2005 as a result of five years of work conducted by many different organizations and individuals around the world.

The main purposes of the Circassian World website are:

  • To generate an informational resource for Circassians and non-Circassians who wish to learn more about the heritage, culture, and history of the Adyghe-Abkhaz people;

  • To strengthen the Circassian national identity and consciousness through informational resources about the Circassian history and heritage;

  • To support and work with other organizations to revive the practice of Circassian history, culture, and language;

  • To collect all types of literature and literary documents about Circassians written in all languages - especially in English and in French – and to translate them into languages spoken by the majority of the Circassian people;

  • To educate the world about the 1763-1864 war in which the Circassians fought against Russia, but finally defeated.  To teach the world that fact that Russian conquest led to the massacre and biggest genocide of the nineteenth century committed against the Circassian nation by Czarist Russia and the eventual forced deportation of the Circassian people to countries throughout the world;

  • To strengthen communication and relationships amongst Circassians all around the world.

As the Circassian World website continues to grow, it will continue to work conscientiously to improve its overall purpose to the Circassian global community.

This site is dedicated to the memories of the Circassian Genocide victims exciled from their land by Russian Empire.

            Only when it is for keeping its liberty
            A strong nation is justified for waging a war
            Any other war would be a shameful cowardly one,
            (Merely) a place for mercyless murder of another nation.

A Nart saga by the Circassians:

The Narts were courageous, energetic, bold, and good-hearted. Thus they lived until God sent down a small swallow.

"Do you want to be few and live a short life but have great fame and have your courage be an example for others forevermore?" asked the swallow. "Or perhaps you would prefer that there be many of you, that your numbers will be great, that you will have whatever you wish to eat and drink, and that you will all live long lives but without ever knowing battle or glory?"

Then without calling a council, but with a reply as quick as thought itself, the Narts said, "We do not want to be like cattle. We do not want to reproduce in great numbers. We want to live with human dignity.

If our lives are to be short,
Then let our fame be great!
Let us not depart from truth!
Let fairness be our path!
Let us not know grief!
Let us live in freedom!''
